My name is Martha Bennett, and I am a native of Dallas, Texas. From childhood into my twenties I was the artist girl who drew pencil portraits for friends and family. In college I studied figure drawing as well as clay sculpture for a 3 dimensional understanding of the human face and form. I later took up colored pencil, pastel, watercolor and acrylic painting. I was often commissioned to create portraits of friends and family, celebrities, imaginary scenes and surreal still life. Trying to make a living as an artist, I took on a few odd jobs, including working as a chalkboard artist for a local established market cafe. When my bills became larger than my income (there’s a reason they call it the “starving artist syndrome”) I was for many years just a single working girl trying to find her place in the “real world”. After countless attempts at finding work that was fulfilling, I ultimately found myself working at dead end corporate jobs that (barely) paid the bills and left my soul dry and unfulfilled. I kept dreaming about one day making a living doing something that I felt passionate about, and so I began my long journey toward finding that dream.

A little background about me
Then I bought my first digital camera! I started taking pictures of everything! But, true to my original love of the human face and form, I gravitated back to portraits of people. Photography and my newly acquired skills in Photoshop allowed me to explore my ideas more quickly than painting and might also provide a social outlet that painting did not. Because digital photography and all the associated editing programs require a technical skill set, it required me to use both the intellectual and creative sides of my brain to achieve a finished product. A hobby that allowed for creativity, intellectual stimulation AND a social outlet? I had found my calling!
So I took classes, joined photography clubs and delved into all the aspects that this new world of photography offered. I practiced photographing glamorous concepts with mannequins and solicited friends to model for me. Then I discovered that I could work with like minded, aspiring models to explore my ideas and hone my skills. That was a game changer!
After conducting a few shoots, I realized that I really enjoyed all the elements involved in a photoshoot, such as set design, wardrobe styling and post photoshoot editing. From brainstorming to set and aesthetics and final editing of my images, I gained valuable experience with bringing a concept to fruition while achieving the social connection that I love.

TODAY I am happy to call myself a self made Photographer ARTIST who creates art - with my camera!
That creative and passionate girl is now a “woman of a certain age” and finally no longer enslaved in a job I don’t want. It’s been said“ "Find work you love, and you will never work a day in your life"! Now I love what I do! My work keeps my soul alive, brings joy to others, and lets me connect with people like you!

I am a romantic at heart, with a playful side, and my passion is photographing women in a glamourous, romantic, or theatrical setting.
I’m an animal lover! Most people who know me know that I love photography, but not everyone knows I am an avid Dachshund lover. I grew up with Dachshunds and currently am a mom of two beautiful black and tan sisters, Beanie and Belle.
I’m also an advocate of ALL animals (except cockroaches).
